El Grillo is an italian piece by Josquin des Prez written in 1504 or something of the sorts. I've always liked gregorian chants and similar vocal selections, but this one always stood apart due to it's peculiar rythim and mood. Being the gamer geek I am, I first heard of this song playing Civilization 4 and always eagerly await to get to medieval era for this song to come up. :p "Madrigal By Josquin des Prez, which appears to be about a cricket, but actually it is a satirical song. It is either about a cardinal nicknamed the Cricket, whose sermons lasted as long as the cricket`s song and whose activities may have been unbecoming of a man of the cloth. Another theory is that Josquin wrote it as a reminder to his patron that musicians` pay was overdue - they cannot sing just for love." Tried to get the 4 different voices out mostly by ear.
